§ 02 / ABOUT
Placeholder text, from Cicero.
Lorem ipsum is garbled Latin — specifically, a scrambled excerpt from Cicero's De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum (45 BCE), shuffled to be unreadable. Designers use it because it looks like real text but doesn't pull a reader into the content, letting them focus on layout, hierarchy, and typography.
// THE CLASSIC OPENING
"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit..." is the canonical start. The "classic" toggle on this tool opens with that phrase; with it off, the first paragraph is a random shuffle of the corpus.
// WHEN NOT TO USE IT
- User-facing flows — placeholder copy breaks the illusion and hides UX problems real copy would reveal.
- Typography reviews — Latin's letter frequency doesn't match English. For real type testing, use English pangrams.
- Accessibility checks — screen readers will read lorem ipsum aloud in your lab; testers hear gibberish, not reality.

§ 02 / FAQ
Questions. Answered.
What is lorem ipsum?+
Placeholder text used in design and typography mockups since at least the 1500s. It’s a scrambled fragment of Cicero’s De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum — looks Latin, reads like nonsense, fills layout without distracting readers with real content. The name comes from the opening words, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet."
Why not just use real English?+
Real text draws the eye. Clients read meaningless sentences and argue about them. Lorem ipsum defeats that instinct: the Latin-looking gibberish signals "this is a placeholder, evaluate the layout, not the words." It also has roughly the same character density and rhythm as English, so line lengths and wraps look realistic.
How do I control the output?+
Adjust paragraphs, sentences per paragraph, and words per sentence using the steppers above. Toggle "start with lorem ipsum" if you want the canonical opening — otherwise each run is pure random word salad. Click REGENERATE to reshuffle.
Is this text copyright-free?+
Yes. The corpus is derived from Cicero (first century BC) and centuries of typographer reuse. Lorem ipsum has been in the public domain for longer than copyright has existed as a concept.
