Common questions.
How do I convert pounds to kilograms?+
Multiply by 0.4536. Example: 150 lb × 0.4536 ≈ 68.04 kg. The reverse: kg × 2.205 ≈ pounds. The exact conversion is 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg by international agreement.
How many ounces in a pound?+
16 ounces in 1 pound (avoirdupois). Note this is the WEIGHT ounce. The fluid ounce (volume) is different — that’s in the Volume Converter and Cups → Grams tool.
What’s a stone?+
14 pounds, or 6.35 kg. Used in the UK and Ireland for personal weight ("she weighs 9 stone 4"). Most other countries use kg or lb. The plural is "stone" not "stones" — "9 stone 4 pounds" is correct.
Are US tons and metric tons the same?+
No. A metric ton (tonne) is exactly 1,000 kg. A US "short ton" is 2,000 lb = 907.185 kg. A UK "long ton" (rare today) is 2,240 lb = 1,016.05 kg. The difference matters for shipping, agriculture, and heavy industry — always confirm which "ton" is meant.
