§ 02 / ABOUT
How the countdown works.
Pick a target date and time. This tool ticks every second, showing days, hours, minutes, and seconds remaining. The target encodes into the URL — so /countdown/2026-12-31-23-59 opens the same countdown for anyone you share the link with.
// USE IT FOR
- Launches and releases — paste the live countdown into a landing page or social post.
- Events — weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, trips.
- Deadlines — submission cutoffs, tax day, exam dates.
- Personal motivation — race day, goal date, the end of a sprint.
// TIMEZONES
The target date is interpreted in the viewer's local timezone. That's usually what you want — "New Year's Eve" should hit midnight wherever the viewer is. If you need a fixed-timezone countdown (launch at 9:00 PT for everyone), open an issue; we're planning a TZ-locked mode.

§ 02 / FAQ
Questions. Answered.
How do I set the target?+
Click the date field to open the calendar, then type a time in the HH:MM field (24-hour format). The countdown updates every second as soon as you change either. The URL updates to match, so you can bookmark or share.
What time zone does this use?+
Your browser’s local time zone. If you type "2026-12-31 23:59", that’s 11:59 PM wherever you are. Sharing the URL with someone in another time zone will count down to the same wall-clock moment in their zone, not yours — so a New Year’s Eve link shared cross-country will expire 3 hours apart.
What happens when the countdown reaches zero?+
The display swaps to a ZERO state showing "00:00:00". The page remains visible and the URL still loads — useful if you set a deadline and want the link to keep marking "past due" visually.
Can I share the countdown with someone?+
Yes. The URL encodes the exact target, e.g. /countdown/2026-12-31-23-59. Copy the URL bar or use the SHARE button. Whoever opens it sees a live countdown to the same moment (in their local time zone).
Does the timer keep running if I close the tab?+
There’s nothing "running" — the calculation is always "target minus current moment". Close the tab and reopen it, the countdown picks up wherever time has gone. No server, no persistence, no account needed.
Are my targets stored anywhere?+
No. The target lives in the URL. Everything happens in your browser.
